Changing Your Mood: Do a Brain Reboot

I look back to the last week of February this year and it was kind of rough. Rainy and dark. A change in call schedule with my business partners in MENA & Europe, led to very little sleep which always affects my mood poorly.

I also had lots of trips and projects delayed. A continuing cash bleed from our cursed real estate investments which caused some cash flow issues. So no surprise I got the deep and dark feeling of failure. Yet it seems like everyone else around you is crushing it. So it’s hard not to feel down.

Having been through this before I knew what I had to do. A big part is DO NOT make any big decisions or do anything. Your brain is on tilt. Take a nap. Meditate. Go to church. Then I went to the gym and did a hard workout. All these taken together constitute a very effective cocktail. It acts as a factory reboot for my brain. It really works.

I also realized I have not been taking my Lithium Orotate which really helps your mood too. Additionally to avoid doom spiralling, you focus on the day ahead of you and that’s it. Don’t look beyond that. I also re-watch this short video “Pain Equals Future Success”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaEkmvEuki4

The other thing is to build a “to do” list. Start doing stuff. Write more, post more. Reach out to friends and colleagues and mentees. Reach out to say hello and genuinely offer help. Being of service to others makes you feel more useful, maybe even valuable. The more you do, the more you increase your surface area of luck.

All these taken together constitute a very effective cure to personal doldrums. It acts as a factory reboot for my brain. You feel like you are taking control of your life back. It really works. So next time you are feeling down or feeling stuck, try these steps to reset your mindset and mood. It worked for me.
