Living in the Present & Living Fully: Landman Wisdom
Dark night of the soul. What a title. Season two, episode 6 of Landman. Apparently it’s from a Spanish poem of St John of the Cross. “It’s about finding comfort in a time of crisis.” Man, I feel like we all have been in crisis since 2020.
The main character Tommy spends the day with his father and his father gives him some great advice.
“What do you got? Ten years left? Before climbing on that barstool is a f—ing struggle like it is for me. Before the smoking, drinking and the rest of it slows you to a crawl. Your ‘making memory’ days is about behind you, son. Trust me, living off of memories ain’t no living at all. You gotta make em while you can. You hear me?”
A good reminder. Life is short. And while we are in the poly-crisis, we can find comfort, sometimes even moments of joy and happiness. There is no time like the present. Live, spend time with loved ones and friends. Have great hobbies and go on adventures. Travel. Go make great memories now.
I leave you with one more quote from the show: “Every day you gotta find a way to celebrate life. That’s the trick.”
